Fire Burnin'

Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Released June 26th by Avon

"You think my blood is the only tie between us?"
His voice was low, yet edged with palpable hunger. It seemed to rub me in places I'd only ever touched before, making my anger fade under a flash of desire. Vlad was so close that his hair was a shadowy veil all around me, and when he began to caress my face with light, sure strokes, it was all I could do not to close my eyes in bliss.
"This is our true tie," he whispered, his breath falling hotly onto my lips. "You're meant for me, and I will have you."

A tragic accident leaves Leila disfigured and with supernatural powers where she can connect to someones past, present and future with just a mere touch as well as the power to channel electricity. Finding herself disowned by the only family she has and working as a sideshow freak in a carnival, Leila along with her best friend Marty, a midget vampire, she's starting to build a life for herself and survive the best way she knows how. But an accident at the local bar, her anonymity is threatened and is no longer just Frankie the carnie, she attracts the attention of some evil vamps that kidnap her and she's forced to locate the infamous Vlad.

Vlad Tepesh, master vampire and fierce protector of his line, he runs his vamps with an iron fist. But a chance meeting with the lovely Leila, threatens his emotionless existence and awakens feelings believed to be long destroyed. Together with Leila its a race to uncover the vampire set out to destroy him. And now that he has Leila he's desperate to keep her by his side.

After finding out that Jeaniene Frost was adding another spin-off to her Night Huntress series and it featuring the sexy, cocksure, enigmatic Vlad I was ecstatic to say the least! But imagining it and reading it are two different things. In one word A-fucking-mazing! Vlad and Leila are more than I expected and I enjoyed every page of this book. As I read it in like a day.

Vlad was certainly a cocky bastard and Leila is a perfect counterpart for him. She's fierce, strong and totally kick ass! She was able to keep up with him physically and their banter was great. She's definitely a woman that knew how to get her way and fought for what she believed in. One of my favorite scenes is when she wanted to set a trap for the bigbad in the story, where she was trying to get Vlad on the same page....she tried her best to stroke his ego so-to-speak(not that she needed to..its already big enough as it is):

"Not Dracula," I said with a faint smile as I turned around. "Vlad Tepesh former viovode of Wallachia and the most arrogant, deadly, frightening man I've ever met."

His lips curled with disdainful amusement. "Compliments won't sway me more than the word please, Leila."

"You take those as complements?" Gretchen was incredulous.

"Of course." His smile bared fangs. "She named all my best qualities."

Not being able to touch anyone with out killing them and/or causing them serious harm, Leila has had to face some serious obstacles add that to knowing all the sins of those she's touched and everyday life for her is a struggle. But the through it all Leila still kept her spunk! All her challenges, she still had serious lady balls and I loved that about her. She was able to keep up with Vlad and his cockiness.

"You're hot, big deal," I shot back, refusing to let his knowledge of my most intimate thoughts daunt me. "I'm attracted to a lot of hot guys. If Chris Hemsworth were here, I'd light him up like a firecracker with how fast I'd jump on him."

"And that would kill him," Vlad noted.

Speaking of...Vlad was just wonderful! He was definitely his fierce, alphalicious self and I fell in love all over again! Fans of the Night Huntress series will just gobble this one up...I know I did! His self assuredness knows know bounds which made for an enjoyable read.

"If I didn't want you so much", he said in a deadly purr, "I'd let you keep fucking me with your gaze, but you're making me impatient."

All in all, awesome start to a series that has me begging for more. I found myslef laughing out loud and fanning myself on many occasions. Leila and Vlad are the best couple second to Cat and Bones and I'm dying to read more about these two....especially since we were left with a tantalizing line from dear Leila:

"Get ready, Vlad," I whispered into the empty room. "This is far from over."

My Favorite Book Giveaway Hop

This giveaway is hosted by Reading Romances, sharing our favorite romance books this year.

Im choosing 2 books to giveaway and they are Gabriel's Inferno and Gabriel's Rapture by Sylvain Reynard.

Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption.

When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.

An intriguing and sinful exploration of seduction, forbidden love and redemption, “Gabriel's Inferno” is a captivating and wildly passionate tale of one man's escape from his own personal hell as he tries to earn the impossible...forgiveness and love.

Professor Gabriel Emerson has embarked on a passionate, yet clandestine affair with his former student, Julia Mitchell. Sequestered on a romantic holiday in Italy, he tutors her in the sensual delights of the body and the raptures of sex. But when they return, their happiness is threatened by conspiring students, academic politics, and a jealous ex-lover. When Gabriel is confronted by the university administration, will he succumb to Dante's fate? Or will he fight to keep Julia, his Beatrice, forever? In Gabriel's Rapture, the brilliant sequel to the wildly successful debut novel, Gabriel's Inferno, Sylvain Reynard weaves an exquisite love story that will touch the reader's mind, body, and soul, forever.

Both of these books are fantastic and I just fell in love! Gabriel and Julia are a great couple and their love story touched me so Im sharing it with you all! Just fill out the rafflecopter form below and Good Luck;)

Follow Friday

Every Friday Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read hosts Feature and Follow Friday. One lucky blog is featured and interviewed while the rest of us post our own responses to the question of the week and blog hop to say hello to each other!

This week's question:

Q: If you could “unread” a book, which one would it be? Is it because you want to start over and experience it again for the first time? Or because it was THAT bad?

HeatherJay's answer:
I couldn't pick just one but I did narrow it down to two. The first is Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Sometimes a topic is so disturbing that it should not only never be a topic of conversation let alone the entire subject of a book. Call me crazy but child rape and murder is at the top of the list. I found this book to be gratuitous and ridiculous and just because the topic is shocking does not mean that you are a good author. The second is Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. I was brought up to believe this was a classic and one of the best literary pieces of the 20th century. FYI, it BLOWS!!!!! It's the story of a privileged, spoiled, shallow brat who spends the entire book feeling sorry for himself. I'd read Twilight again 10 times instead of reading either of these books! TEAM EDWARD!!!

Dirty Little Secret

Dirty Little Secret is a weekly meme hosted by us at Under the Covers. Every Thursday we get to know other bloggers and our readers more intimately by asking them a question hoping to reveal their dirty little secrets. We hope that you will all join us!

This week's question:

What book would you recommend to to heat up your summer!

HeatherJay's Answer:
I recently picked up Molly Harpers' How To Flirt With A Naked Werewolf and I loved, loved it! It's the perfect combination of sexy and fun. It reminded me of one of my favorite old T.V. shows, Northern Exposure, but with a paranormal twist. Perfect for a good beach read!

Northern Exposure Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble. For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question. If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated

Selfish Slatern

Hump Day Harlots, hosted by Pure Textuality, will be a post to highlight and discuss our favorite (or least favorite) female character in a romance or erotica novel. We will be highlighting a different female character every week. *Warning: May include explicit content*

The Harlot in question this week is Kiera from the Thoughtless series by S.C. Stephens. This chick is a selfish, whinny, spineless whoebag!

Why?? Because she fucks her boyfriends best friends while he's out trying to be an adult and make a life and future for her! She does get some serious temptation trust up in her face...by the name of Kellan Kyle, but if she would just use her noggin' instead of her snatch then she wouldn't have gotten herself into the shit she was in! I mean these two idiots(Kellan and Kiera) repeatedly squanked behind poor Denny's back....whilst Kiera squanked Denny as well! Poor guy...its no wonder he beat Kellan within an inch of his life towards the end! So Kiera....selfish, spineless, whoebag too the max. If she would have just told Denny that she was no longer in love with him when he quit his job to be with her than all the drama could have been avoided...But hey....it was entertaining as hell!!

Don't forget to check out Ginny's Humpday Harlot on Pure Textuality!

Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme sharing releases we cant wait to get our hands on! Hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine.

I've been slightly obsessed lately with anything Victorian or Steampunk. Anything set in Victorian England makes me giddy. Last week, a friend of mine recommended Incarnation from Emma Cornwall.  A new take on Vampires/Bram Stoker and Victorian London has me so excited that I cannot contain myself.

Lucy Weston tracks down the novelist Bram Stoker in her search to reveal the dark force who made her a vampire—and regain her humanity in the process.
In the steampunk world of Victorian London, Lucy Weston, a character in Dracula, seeks out Bram Stoker to discover why he deliberately lied about her in his popular novel. With Stoker’s reluctant help, she tracks the creature who transformed her from the sensual underworld where humans vie to become vampires to a hidden cell beneath a temple to madness and finally into the glittering Crystal Palace where death reigns supreme. Haunted by fragmentary memories of her lost life and love, Lucy battles her thirst for blood as she struggles to stop a catastrophic war that will doom vampires and humans alike. Ultimately, she makes a choice that illuminates for her—and for us—the true nature of what it means to be human.

Release Date: September 12, 2012

White Trash Zombie

The Cover Story is be a weekly post, hosted by Pure Textuality, highlighting a book cover and our thoughts on the artwork. This will cover not only new releases, but also older titles.

This week I would like to discuss one of my favorite series(I have many) , but this cover is just bad ass to me! White Trash Zombie series by Diana Rowland follows Angel Crawford who is pretty much a low life, but when she's inadvertently turned into a Zombie and given a job at the local  morgue things start to change for the better! Who woulda thunk being turned into a Zombie would better someones life....but it does. She starts to learn responsibility, stops drinking and doing drugs....well basically because she doesn't want to and all she can think about is eating brains...but, I found the book to be pretty awesome! While the cover of the 1st book is my favorite the 2nd one pulls no punches! I just love it! Dan Dos Santos is very talented!!

 Angel Crawford is a loser

Living with her alcoholic deadbeat dad in the swamps of southern Louisiana, she's a high school dropout with a pill habit and a criminal record who's been fired from more crap jobs than she can count. Now on probation for a felony, it seems that Angel will never pull herself out of the downward spiral her life has taken.

That is, until the day she wakes up in the ER after overdosing on painkillers. Angel remembers being in an horrible car crash, but she doesn't have a mark on her. To add to the weirdness, she receives an anonymous letter telling her there's a job waiting for her at the parish morgue—and that it's an offer she doesn't dare refuse.

Before she knows it she's dealing with a huge crush on a certain hunky deputy and a brand new addiction: an overpowering craving for brains. Plus, her morgue is filling up with the victims of a serial killer who decapitates his prey—just when she's hungriest!

Angel's going to have to grow up fast if she wants to keep this job and stay in one piece. Because if she doesn't, she's dead meat.

Literally.
Angel is starting to settle into this whole “being a zombie” thing, but her problems are far from over. Her felony record is coming back to haunt her, more zombie hunters are popping up, and she’s beginning to wonder if her hunky cop-boyfriend is involved with the zombie mafia. Yeah, that’s right — the zombie mafia. Throw in a government conspiracy and a secret lab, and Angel’s going to need all of her brainpower — and maybe a brain smoothie as well — in order to get through it without falling apart.

Releases July 3rd 2012

From Helios to Hollywood

From Helios to Hollywood will be a weekly post hosted by Pure Texuality,to  compare and discuss books that have been made into movies (or occasionally TV shows). We will highlight one book to film per week. Sometimes the book is better, sometimes the movie is better. We will have to wait to see the opinions roll in!

This week I would like to discuss The Vampire Diaries! I started reading the books when the show started and I found i quite enjoyable...a little dated(since it's in the 90's) but a great read! But in all honesty...the show is WAAAY better in my opinion! Even though Elena does annoy me in both the books and the show....watch Damon and Stephan every week is just the cherry on my sundae! And with all the Alphalicious candy on the show its no wonder I'm panting after every episode!

All in all, The Vampire Diaries TV show is better than the books....which is unusual since its normally the opposite! But hey....I aint complaining! So to all my followers....what do you think? The Vampire Diaries....TV show or Books??

Love Triangles n Cappuccino Stands....

Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens
June 11th 2010
ebook 546 pgs

Blurb: For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source – a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes...and none of them will ever be the same.

My Review:
I greatly enjoyed this book, but I thought Kiera and Kellan were completely selfish....really all of them were to a certain extent! Kiera was too dependent on Denny. I understand being in love and your significant other and them being your world but, she really needed to get a fucking life. When Denny receives an opportunity to better his career he has to leave Kiera behind....with the sexy rock God Kellan Kyle. Kiera is devastated...like fall into a deep sea of despair....it was ridiculous! She had a job at the bar(where Kellan plays) and is a full time student, she had plenty to keep her busy but what does this dumbass do?? Fucks her boyfriends best friend because he took a job in another state. I get why she was pissed....especially since he takes it without even consulting her but she would have gotten over it. So this is where the train wreck that is Kiera and Kellan begin!

Don't get me wrong. Kiera and Kellan really do fall in love with each other....I believe it started to develop in Kellan's case before Denny even left the state but Kiera should have told Denny it was too late when he quit his job to come back to her. Yes! He drops everything, quits his dream job, comes home to her and after all of that....she still continues to see Kellan! It was just bad decision after bad decision. From Kellan treating Kiera like shit cuz she went back to Denny. Then making up and Kiera continually seeing Kellan behind Denny's back under the "illusion" that their relationship is innocent...which is ridiculous! It was just crazy!

"....and he groaned as our bodies pressed together again. "Stop it, Kiera," he snarled. "I need you. let me doi this. I can make you forget him. I can make you forget you."

I shuddered knowing he was exactly right."

It was apparent that Kiera was no longer in love with Denny. She was afraid of change and terrified of what life would be like with Kellan. Which is understandable since she has to deal with groupies all over her man constantly. But stringing them both along was just selfish on her part. Poor Kellan was in love with her and taking whatever scraps he could get from Kiera and poor Denny, after quitting his job, got stuck working for a complete ass and is completely miserable! Knowing all of this, the bitch still can't make a decision until its too late! In all honesty, I don't think she deserved either one of those guys!

Aside from the atrocious love triangle are a cast of characters that I just fell in love with. The D-Bags...local rock band with a lead singer to die for. Drop-dead gorgeous with intense eyes, just fucked hair, an alluring voice and a fabulous body....Kellan is every girls fantasy. Griffin...lead guitarist and a complete rake! He's a complete asshole and screws anything with legs....you just love to hate him. Evan and Matt crept their way into my heart as well along with the crazy groupies and the cougar bartender.

All in all, I loved it! Losts of heartbreak and betrayal, hot sex and rock n roll! My kinda party! To me this story is a prime example of what not to do around a hot rock God when you're vulnerable! Tequila shots with said rock God after your boyfriend fucks up...very ill advised! If you loved Sinners on Tour then you would love this is well!

Review: Effortless by S.C. Stephens

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"I don't know what I would do without you. I love you so much. But, if for some reason we're not closer, if something has come between us, please, I'm begging you...don't give up on me. Stay. Stay with me. Work it out with me. Just don't leave me...please."

If Thoughtless was about betrayal and loss then effortless is about growth and healing! Now that Kiera and Kellan are finally a couple, one would think that all would be perfect....yea right! The D-Bags are on their way to becoming a house hold name....with the awesome band now going on tour, Kellan and Kiera must face thier most challenging feat. Trust from long distance. Since the couple started thieir releationship with a betrayal it seems they may be doomed. But can their love for each other stand the strain? Can they get over their petty jealousies and grow the fuck up? Only time will tell it seems.....

This one was better than the first one in my opinion. Since the dynamic duo are faced with separation they must learn to trust one another. Kellan is scared that Kiera will turn to another in his absence since that's what she did to Denny. And Kiera is facing the green-eyed monster fighting off hordes of groupies. All the chicks love Kellan and its a constant struggle for her. But one thing that Im glad about and which was most surprising was Kiera's growth in this installment. She's started to learn from her mistakes by establishing her independence and not letting her and Kellan's relationship consume her. She actually got a feckn life...which was one of my pet-peeves in Thoughtless.

Another obsticle is while Kellan's dealing with the sucsess of his band he's also keeping something from Kiera....and she can sense it! It really is the wedge that gets between these too as Kiera is also keeping something big from Kellan. Although she does grow up a lot in this book she also does some dumb shit too....just because Kellan is keeping a secret doesn't mean that you should too. I understand why she kept it from him...since it probably would have drove Kellan back home but she should have trusted her relationship with Kellan and consulted him first!

One of the things I loved about this book was Kellan's letters to Kiera....it was like a treasure hunt with love notes! It was the cutest thing! I really got to feel the love he has for her which is insurmountable.

"I know that I've become one of those spouting, love-sick idiots, but what it all boils down to is three words that don't mean nearly enough...I love you."

Along with thier relationship woes, there's also forgiveness. Kiera needs to forgive her self for what she did to Denny and atone for it! They were bestfriends once and it's tough when you lose someone you love and care for even when you're the one who fragged up. I thought it was important that that happen and was glad that it did!

All in all, awesome book that I would definitely read again. Lots of surprises and closure to some things as well! Im dying to read the next book in this series to find out whats next with Kellan and Kiera! They have such great passion and an all consuming love for each other that is addictive to read about! Loving each other really is effortless....

"You...seared me. That's making love. That is something that none of them have over you. You are...unforgettable...and I love you."

My Kellan
